Game Design

Welcome to my personal website and work portfolio.

I am a professional game designer with 12 years experience in the video games industry. During that time I worked on 11 titles which were predominantly for the console and PC market but which also included DVD games, a Scene It? board game and a DS game for LEGO. Two of the games I designed; Lego Football Mania and the 2006 World Cup Scene It? edition also won several game design awards.

Games and games design has been an intense and enduring passion in my life and I have always loved playing them and working on them. Currently I am developing apps and games you can play on browsers and developing the other passion in my life; web development and the construction of content for the internet.

It was always natural for me to develop a career in games and within games I naturally gravitated to level design, to my mind the really fun part!

I love using design sofware such as Unreal Ed, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop and SketchUp and have used them all professionally. I also like coding in CSS, HTML, JavaScript, LUA and Python which enable me to make interesting things for the internet.

I hope you like my website and enjoy looking around.

Videos

The series of videos on this page show some of the games I have worked on in various capacities ranging from lead designer to level designer.

The Outsider, an open world game based in the city of Washington was a political thriller following the assassination of the President of America. The level design was very intereting as we took a sanbox approach to the gameplay with multiple routes through each level and multiple solutions to each level's various challenges.

Without Warning was a first person shooter set in a vast Chemical Plant taken over by terrorists. The player followed assumed 6 different characters as they each navigated their way through the conflict and the explosive environment.

Captain Scarlet - Retaliation was a great experience. A Commandos style game that wholeheartedly embraced the Captain Scarlet world and it's wonderful characters. As Lead Designer I had a great opportunity to create a wide variety of differnt levels and to refine the Commandos gameplay that I have always thoroughly enjoyed.

Lego Football Mania was my first experience of Lead Design and a very fulfilling one. It was great fun to make a great game much enjoyed by children as I am very young at heart. The fact that the game went on to win an award was also very gratifying.

Dogs of War was my first job in the games industry and a wonderful experience. I fulfilled my ambition of making levels in the games industry and was very happy when promoted to Lead Level Designer. The gameplay was similar to Command and Conquer and I had the opportunity to work on large scale rural and urban environments for tanks. The game was one of the first 3D strategy games ever made and had a great team working on it. I loved every minute and hated going home!
